📌 New Release : Morocco and Algeria Between Reality and Illusion: A Geopolitical Reading of the Moroccan Sahara

Quand le vent se lève sur le désert : Le Maroc face aux mirages de l’obstruction algérienne

The CMEADD (Moroccan Center for African Studies and Sustainable Development) is pleased to announce the publication of a new analytical volume offering a rigorous, research-based assessment of the geopolitical dynamics between Morocco and Algeria, grounded in international relations theory, geopolitical analysis, and international law—far beyond political rhetoric or reactive commentary.

This book provides a documented, comparative examination of the foreign policies of both countries, based on verified data, UN legal frameworks, and the evolving balance of power in North Africa and the Sahel.
It pays particular attention to the post-United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797 (31 October 2025), which reaffirmed the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative as the only credible and implementable basis for a political settlement, marking the decline of the separatist narrative at the international level.

The study highlights a clear strategic contrast:

🔹 Morocco: acts as a sovereign, stable state relying on international legality, long-term diplomacy, and geo-economic influence through its structured African integration.
🔹 Algeria: maintains a posture of diplomatic obstruction and discursive escalation, without articulating any legally valid or politically viable alternative, positioning itself as a blocking actor rather than a constructive regional force.

This is not an opinion piece, but a documented geopolitical and legal analysis showing how the Sahara question has evolved from a “territ-orial dispute” into a key indicator of state legitimacy, strategic vision, and power projection in the Maghreb.
